WordPress 2.5 and Image Upload Problems

Written by John Raul II at 9:11 am under Web Hosting | 202 views

Some people say they like the previous version of WordPress blog platform. Well, there are few reasons for me to believe that. I found personally the new WordPress version has few issues with my web hosting environment. Although in my previous blog post I said that the new features of WordPress are neat, the image upload issue I just discovered made me somehow upset. Fortunately, the customer support representatives of my web host, Top Hosting Center, quickly resolved the issues.  And guess what? They told me how they did it! Very excellent customer service and transparent indeed.

If your web hosting plan uses H-Sphere control panel, and you run WordPress 2.5 from it, most likely you will get an "HTTP error" when you attempt to upload an image or anything to your WordPress 2.5 media gallery.

Here are the steps THC told me on how they solved the WordPress problem:

  1. Right-click and save (download) this no-flash-uploader PHP file and upload it to your WordPress 2.5 plugin folder.
  2. Activate the no-flash-uploader plugin in your WordPress control panel.
  3. Be sure that your WordPress upload folder is writable (chmod to 777 to be sure).
  4. Download this zip file, uncompress it to your local hard drive, and upload the folders to your Wordpress installation directory. Make sure that the folders you upload follow the same directory structure of your WordPress installation.
  5. Login to your WordPress control panel, and try uploading an image. WordPress 2.5 image upload should work during this step. :D

Just take note that the notorious WordPress image upload error is not exclusive to H-Sphere control panel. It also occurs to other control panels like CPanel and Plesk — and the solution approach is different.

If you find the solution above ineffective for your H-Sphere web hosting plan, please let me know and I would be fully happy to assist you.

I had to change the permissions to the wp-content folder on one account to get it to upload images. But another account I get the 500 error. Both on same H-Sphere. I should try your plugin though.

PS: Long time no see. ;) and I like the new photo you used in the header.

Thanks to your comment Macbros. I added new item to the steps (I forgot to mention that the WordPress upload folder must be writable) to make the fix work. Thank you so much. ;)

Wouldn’t be better and more effective if THC offers this by default? I am sure you could suggest this they’ll fix the problem for all WordPress users - and this will make great company news. I doubt that many other hosting companies care for such little details. I for one have TerraHermes.com at THC, but I always use ftp to upload images, because “bulk uploads” are faster this way - so for me uploading images is not a problem.
